We are sad to announce that on December 16, 2024, at the age of 86, Vernette Sexton James (Middleton, Tennessee) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her daughter Cindy Shumate; her siblings, Evelyn Easterwood and Dr. Alvis Sexton; and her parents, Charles Sexton and Annie Belcher Sexton.
She is survived by: her husband Eugene James of Byhalia, MS; her children, Renae Howell of Pocahontas and Danny James of Palmyra, VA; her sisters, Vadeen Stanfill of Germantown, Ann Wells of Saulsbury and Vernice Miller of Collierville; her grandchildren, Tiffany Howell, Christopher Lee Howell, May Flowers Shumate (Isabelle), Patrick Shumate (Jimin), Zachary Shumate, Ryan James, Nate Carr-James and Justin Carr-Friend; and her son-in-law Jeff Shumate.
Visitation was held on Friday, December 20th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Shackelford Funeral Directors (201 S Main St, Middleton, TN 38052). A funeral service was held on Friday, December 20th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Friday, December 20th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:15 PM at the Rogers Springs Cemetery (335 Old Roger Spring Rd, Middleton, TN 38052).
