He was predeceased by: his wife Mardell Burrows McDearmon; and his niece Shirley Smith. He is survived by: his nieces, Diane Conley (Mike), Donna Sam and Marsha Blackwell; his nephew Leon Sam; his close friend Joy Brashear; and also, Patsy Burrow, Susan Hill, Barry Ridley (Patricia) and Tommy Ridley (Nelda).
