He was predeceased by: his father Robert Newton Ward; and his son Gregory Ward. He is survived by: his wife Virginia Powell; his children, Craig Ward (Anne), Stacey Deitz (David) and Wendy Todd (D. J.); his grandchildren, Hannah Brooks (Aaron), Julianna Weyrich (Austin), Hunter Deitz, Micah Ward (Sydney), Noah Ward and Elijah Atkins; his mother Connie Akins; his siblings, Bobby Ward (Shirley), Patsy Golden (Jimmy) and Cindy Cable; and also, Thomas and Joyce Anne Brooks.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Building Fund of Dotson Memorial Baptist Church.
