She was predeceased by: her parents, Dewey James Short and Florence McQueen Short; and her siblings, Ronald Short, Stanley Short and Doris Williamson.
She is survived by: her husband Charles A. Van Deventer; her children, Deborah V. Bain and Scott A. Van Deventer (Irna); and her grandchildren, Andrew Bain (Jackie), Jason Bain (Selena), Teresa Leborgne (Jérôme), Philip Van Deventer (Brittney) and Katie Hare (Patrick). She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren.
