He is survived by: his wife Donna; his children, Yulonda Burkhart (Spencer) and Kevin Young (Julie); his grandchildren, Kati Goforth (Michael), Ashleigh, Bryce and Chase Burkhart; his great grandchildren, Adaleigh and Kash Goforth; his siblings, James Esco Young, Jr. and Nancy Bryson (Reed); his siblings-in-law, JoAnn, Cindy, Kay and Herman Fleming; his caregivers, Brittany Bledsoe, Renee Porco, Philip Vest, Rita Tatum and Chandra; and his close friend Brenda Gunter.
Charles suffered with Parkinson's disease for ten years.
