He was predeceased by: his wife June À. Leatherwood; his son John Scott Leatherwood; his grandson Cory J Stewart; and his parents, James Leatherwood and Clemma Leatherwood.

He is survived by: his daughter LuAnn Stewart (Ray). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
