He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Elester Spears and Octavia Hill Spears; his wife Marlene J. Spears; his great grandchild Abigail Carter; and his siblings, William, Cornelius, Burl, Nettie Mae Eddy, Ellie, Clayton and James.
He is survived by: his children, Errol "Britt" Spears (Janet) and Susan Hamilton (Rockey); his grandchildren, Heather Carter (Adam), Jeremiah Hamilton (Caitlin), Lauren Burns (Christopher) and Rebecca Lesley (Josh); and his great grandchildren, Nathan Spears, Sam, Will, Betsy Burns, Kaylyn, Aleyah, Kinley Hamilton, Zayden, Charlie Turner, Malachi, Gabriel and Avonlea Carter. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
