He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Carpenter and Julia Carpenter; and his brother Tom Carpenter. He is survived by: his wife Laverne Purkey Carpenter; his sister Edwina Anderson; his son Steve Carpenter; his daughter-in-law Dee Carpenter; his granddaughter Jenny; and his great grandchild Faith Leigh Haynes. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to: Shady Grove Cemetery Assiciatio or to the American Lung Association.
