He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Akins and Laura Akins (Hembree); his wife Betty Louise Akins (Williams); and his siblings, George, Paul, James Akins, Dorothy Williams, Agnus Lulase Akins, Mamie and Amie Akins.
He is survived by: his son Timothy; his daughter-in-law Mary Lou Akins of Cumming, GA; his daughter Suzanne; his son-in-law Perry Purdy; his grandchildren, Ryan Akins (Lauren), Bryson Turner (Patrick) and Brooke Purdy (Paige Purdy); his great grandchildren, Beckett, Blakely and Eleanor; and his sister Wanda Franks. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.
