He was predeceased by: his parents, Grace Corbly (Stringer) and Martin Corbly. He is survived by: his wife Jane Corbly (Gillespie); his children, Brett Corbly (Christine) of Indian Land, Paige Buffington (Adam) of O'Fallon, Illinois and Meredith Brewer (Ian) of Lexington, Kentucky.; and his grandchildren, William, Beckett Brewer and Henry Buffington.

In 1971, Dennis joined the U.S. Air Force Materials Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio, where he worked in the Nondestructive Evaluation Branch, making significant contributions to the field.
