He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Walter Schmidt and Helen Schmidt; his sisters, Virginia Daggett, Betty Dunlap and Donna Elliott; his former wife Patricia Eriksson (late Beverly Schmidt); his wife Jackie; his children, Carey Schmidt (Sherry) of Fenton, LeAnn Yannelli (John) of New York and Craig Schmidt (Carolyn) of Linden; his grandchildren, Matthew (Laura), Corey (Chelsea), Aaron and Casey Yankee (Kyle); and his stepchildren, Bob Boka (Gail) of Burton, Darin Boka (Tammy) of Lapeer and Shayne Daup (Curt) of Genesee. He was also cherished by three great-grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity in Walter Schmidt's name.
