He was predeceased by: his parents, Houston B. Mays and Alpha Vera Mays; and his brother Houston Leroy Mays. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Evitts Mays; and his siblings, Larry Mays (Norma) and Betty Ann Gilmer (Bruce).
