He was predeceased by: his parents, Nathaniel Slater and Ruby Bailey Slater; and his siblings, Joyce Hughes, Hulda Horton, Tharon Ray, J. C. Slater, David "Bud" Slater and Keith Slater.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Slater of Lawrenceburg, TN; his children, Vicky Barber (Mark) of Henderson, TN, Terry Slater, Phillip Slater of Jasper, AL and Jeremy Slater of Ethridge, TN; and his siblings, Janice Appleton (Rex) of St. Joseph, TN and Sam Slater (Nita) of Lawrenceburg, TN. He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to Long Branch Church of Christ.
