He is survived by: his wife Pauline; his children, Ritta Beason, Stephanie Howard, Chester Smithers (Lindsey) and Joseph Smithers; his brother Gene Pierce; and his grandchildren, Jessica Bembury, Shelby Beason, Joseph Smithers, Jr., Johnny Smithers, Chastity, Rebecca and Chester Smithers, Jr.. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren.
