He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Thornton and Eva Thornton Clair; his grandson Steven Thornton; and his brothers, Henry Thornton and Kenneth Thornton.
He is survived by: his wife Bertie Thornton; his sons, Larry Thornton (Donna), Darryl Thornton (Janet) and Greg Thornton (Shannon); his grandchildren, Christy Carroll (Will), Taylor Weber (Scott) and Tanner Thornton (Allison); his great grandchildren, Zeke Carroll, Lucas Thornton and Laura Weber; and his sisters, Mary Chapman and Naomi Swain.
