He was predeceased by: his wife Willie Ozelle Cox Cherry; his parents, Henry Roscoe Cherry and Pattie Dillard Cherry; and his siblings, Donnie Cherry, H. R. Cherry, Cleo Cherry, Irene Shinkman, Gloria Yielding and Dorothy Buidosik.

He is survived by: his children, Clara Willis (Edward) and Edward Cherry; his grandson Richard Willis (Ashley Laura Jones); and his great grandchildren, Hailey and Hunter Willis Emma Jones.
