He was predeceased by: his parents, Raleigh Whitten Proffitt and Zella Mae Auton Proffitt; his son Ira Scott Proffitt; and his granddaughter Heather Proffitt. He is survived by: his wife Ella Mae "Polly" Proffitt; his children, Randall Proffitt (Kathy), Anita McCarter (Rex), Jeffrey Proffitt (Alvinia) and Keith Proffitt (Lorrie); and his grandchildren, Michael Tagnesi (Cassondra), Travis Proffitt (Heather), Jimmy Proffitt (Amanda), Chad Proffitt (Marissa), Cody Proffitt (Lindsey), Jessica Vanover (Jesse) and Austin Proffitt (Shaevon). He is also survived by 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
