He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarice Staley and John Staley; his grandfather Preceding; his sister Virginia Lou Staley; and his son John Davis Staley III.

He is survived by: his wife Rita Farris; his daughter Kellie Staley Miller (David); his daughter-in-law Stephanie Staley; his grandchildren, Spencer David Miller (Heather), Brock Johnathan Miller (Sarah Ashley Hall), Kendall Miller Graham (Matt), John Garrett Staley and Grayson Lane Staley; and his great grandchild Lincoln Knox Miller.

In lieu of flowers or memorial trees, the family would much appreciate memorial contributions to Wallace Memorial Baptist Church.
