He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Graves and Leona Royce Graves; his wife Betty Graves; his sister JoAnn Norton; his son James F Graves Jr.; and his grandson James F Graves II (Jimmy).

He is survived by: his children, Debbie Hawk (Mark), Becky Osborn (Jim) and Joe Graves (Carole); his grandchildren, Matthew Hawk (Jessica), Jason Hawk (Laura), Kelly Hawk Fitzgerald (Eric), Meredith Osborn, Megan Wolf (Will), Jimmy Osborn (Emily), Emily Denham (Dustin), Sara LeBlanc (Spencer), Rachel Graves, Sophia Graves and Johan Graves; and his great grandchildren, Logan, Landon, Layton, Lucas, Averi Hawk, Emilia Fitzgerald, Lennon, Felicity Wolf and James Osborn.
