He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert S. Sanger, Sr. and Ethel Layne Sanger; and his siblings, Patsy Hinte, Frank Sanger and Joseph Sanger.

He is survived by: his wife Rita Baumgartner Sanger; his children, Charles Sanger (Maureen), Carole Brink (Jim), Warren Sanger (Jennifer) and George Sanger (Tracie); his grandchildren, Edward Brink, Maggie Sanger James, Claire Brink Chance, Laura Brink Richards, Ford Sanger, Josh Sanger, James Sanger, David Sanger, George Sanger Jr. and Mary Ellen Sanger; his great grandchildren, Mary Pate, Hattie and James; and his brother Reverend Ronald Sanger.

Visitation was held on Thursday, February 13th 2025 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Central Baptist Church of Fountain City (5364 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37918). A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 13th 2025 at 6:30 PM at the same location.
