He was predeceased by: his parents, William Merritt and Arabelle Merritt. He is survived by: his children, Donial Saunders, Lisa Fox and Joshua Jackson; his children-in-law, Julie Kirkpatrick and Adam Mcdonnough; and his grandchildren, Donald Howard, Alonzo Saunders, Lisa Jackson, Jayden Breed, Nevaeh Jackson, Liam Jackson, Maddox Thomas, Lowell C and Joseph F. Fox. He is also survived by Seven Great-Grand-Children.

The military honors will be held on Tuesday, February 25th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920).
