He was predeceased by: his wife Gail Campbell Garner; his daughter Amy; and his parents, Joe Garner and Pauline Garner. He is survived by: his daughters, Kim Garner House (Jerry House) and Jennifer Garner Patterson (Eric Patterson); his grandchildren, Zach House, Cameron House, Garrett House, Elijah House, Jackson House, Victoria Patterson and Campbell Patterson; his great grandchild Riley Kate House; and his sister Deloris Tolson.

One of his most significant contributions to the church was the founding of the radio station WUCP LP 99.9 FM.
