He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Rudolph and Rosannah Hix Rader Petty. He is survived by: his wife Debra O'Brien Petty; his sons, Jody Petty (Jennifer), Jeremy Petty (Denise), Jeffrey Petty (Holly) and Jason Petty (Elisabeth); his siblings, Kenneth Petty (Carol), Gary L. Petty (Linda), Ted Petty (Lee), Joyce Beshears, Gail Andrews (Ben), Margarette Chapman (Raymond) and Patricia "Trish" Gentry (Gary); and his grandchildren, Katelynn, Kendahl, Jaden, Jalynn, Bryce, Graham and Heath.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Sarah Cannon Research Institute.
