She was predeceased by: her husband V. E. Bowery, Jr.; her parents, Enoch A. Payne and Nannie Dulaney Payne; her siblings, Doris Hale, Grace Burchette, Rachel Bledsoe, Burlie E. Payne and Robert E. Payne; her cousin Marcella Robinette; and her brother-in-law Roy "John" Bledsoe.
She is survived by: her children, Robin Bowery Hipsher of Hickory, NC and Verlin Edgar Bowery III of Kingsport, Tennessee; her brother Ronald Payne of Chicago, Illinois; and her niece Mary Kathryn Little. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
