He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Pate and Hattie Mae Pate; and his sister Nancy Hood. He is survived by: his wife Brenda; his sons, Rand of California and Rob (Yvette) of Kingsport; his sisters, Billie Pate of Nashville and Mary Yarnell of Jefferson City; and his niece Mary Oney. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He loved God, his family, and his church and enjoyed his contributions to it such as being on the mowing team which he called his ministry.
