He was predeceased by: his wife Delores Rupe; and his parents, James Leland and Anna Lee Rupe. He is survived by: his children, Johnathan Stewart (Esmeralda), Alan Alvis (Debbie) and Amber Alvis; his grandchildren, Lexy, Chelsea, Matthew, Hector, Angel, Sarah and Logan; his great grandchildren, Carter and Halle; and his siblings-in-law, Joyce "Ninnie" Winegar, Sandra Donihe (Mark), Darrell Winegar (Deborah) and David Winegar (Trina). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Fireside Room at Oak Hill Funeral and Cremation Services (800 Truxton Dr, Kingsport, TN 37660). A graveside service was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery (491 Beulah Church Rd, Kingsport, TN 37663).
