He was predeceased by: his wife Delores Rupe; and his parents, James Leland and Anna Lee Rupe. He is survived by: his children, Johnathan Stewart (Esmeralda), Alan Alvis (Debbie) and Amber Alvis; his grandchildren, Lexy, Chelsea, Matthew, Hector, Angel, Sarah and Logan; his great grandchildren, Carter and Halle; and his siblings-in-law, Joyce "Ninnie" Winegar, Sandra Donihe (Mark), Darrell Winegar (Deborah) and David Winegar (Trina). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
