He is survived by: his wife Kathy Proffitt; his children, Sanford James Proffit and Valarie Goins of Wamego, KS; his stepchildren, Charles Lewis and Ricki White of Canton, NC; and his sister Linda Cardwell. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
