He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Wheeler and Maggie Jenkins Wheeler; and his wife Judy Wheeler. He is survived by: his son Douglas Wheeler (Sandy); his stepson Ben "Dooner" Hooper III (Lucy); his grandchildren, Amanda Sims (Aaron), Jay Wheeler (Emily), Ben "Tige" Hooper IV (Julia) and Theo Hooper (Cara); and his great grandchildren, Hannah, Justus, Ava Sims, Hudson, Grayson and Kylee Wheeler. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, November 6th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Mountain Home National Cemetery (53 Memorial Ave, Mountain Home, TN 37684).
