He was predeceased by: his parents, Salie Messer and Edith Messer; his wife Mary Ruth Messer; his son Glenn Messer; his granddaughter Lisa Stout; and his sister Betty Jean Ingram.

He is survived by: his granddaughter Misty Hannah; his sons, Bobby Messer (Donna) and Johnny Messer (Becky); his grandson Shannon Messer; his great grandchildren, Denver, Lee Stout and Chris Hannah; and his brother Ralph Messer (Sherry). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
