He was predeceased by: his parents, Allie Dawson and Mabel Dawson (Robeson); and his siblings, Savel Broyles, Ilean Phillips, Rebecca White, Libbie Suter, Mose Dawson, Kyle Dawson (Hook), Glen Dawson (Jas), Alonzo Dawson (Pete), Malone Dawson and J. B. Dawson.
He is survived by: his wife Peggie Dawson (Wampler); his sister Lougene Douthat (Dawson) of Raleigh, NC; his children, Debbie Hatmaker of Athens, GA, Donna Hubbard (Jeff) of Jefferson City, David Dawson (Gretchen) of Prosper, TX and Denise Lindsey (Greg) of Chattanooga; and his grandchildren, Joel Hatmaker (Sara), Julie Holt (Jason), Colin Hatmaker (Laura), Katie Workman (Nick), Carrie Williams (Tony), Will Lindsey, Sarah Dawson, Lydia Toledano (Cristian), Andrew Dawson (Lauren), Jacob Lindsey (Hannah) and Chloe Lindsey.
