In the vast expanse of eternity, Robert shall find rest, cradled in the arms of everlasting peace. And as we bid Robert farewell, his loved ones carry with them the precious gift of his memory, a beacon of hope guiding them through the shadows of sorrow towards the light of a new dawn.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Lynn Hughes and Virgie Hicks Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Betty Gurley Hughes; his son Mark Hughes of Jackson; his brother Ronnie Hughes of Milan; and his nieces, Rhonda Darnell of Murfreesboro and Robin Sellers of Milan.

Visitation was held on Monday, March 31st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Arrington Funeral Directors and Crematory (148 W University Pkwy, Jackson, TN 38305). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 1st 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, April 1st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Gardner-Wylie Cemetery.

He loved to dress in the full ensemble and spoke at many community events about his contribution to the American Revolution.
