He was predeceased by: his brother Ray Carter; and his parents, Aubrey Carter and Mattie Louise Summers Carter. He is survived by: his children, Robert Carter, Jr. and Mitzi Michaelson (Rick); his siblings, Ken, Don, Cleve Carter and Ann Miller; and his granddaughter Ellie Michaelson.

Visitation was held on Sunday, April 13th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Arrington Funeral Directors and Crematory (148 W University Pkwy, Jackson, TN 38305). A funeral service was held on Sunday, April 13th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.

“Am so sorry to hear about Mr. Carter's passing. He was my first 'full time' employer, during my senior year at Jackson-Central-Merry in 1973. Although, I left Moore Studio after one year, he taught me a lot about photography that I still use today and about life. Him and Mr. Dooley were quite a pair. Mitch photographed our wedding. Will miss him. L. Harper”
