He was predeceased by: his parents, Mike Ward and Gertie Ward (Overton); his siblings, R. L. Ward, J. C. Ward and Thelma Brown; and his brother-in-law O. P. Byrd.
He is survived by: his children, Lori Stimpson (Brian) of Albion, Ronda Groogan (Robert Sr.) of LaVergne and Daniel Ward of Jacksboro; his siblings, Luther Ward (Pat) of Jacksboro, Lois Gibson (Kenneth) of Jacksboro, Betty Allen (Don Allen) of Caryville and Alma Byrd of LaFollette; his grandchildren, Jessica Tabor, Megan Broeker (Mark, Katie Gyalog), Ashleigh Gyalog, Andrew Gyalog and Robert Groogan Jr.; his great grandchildren, Andrea and Andrew Tabor; the mother of his children Connie Ward; and also Shirley Brooks. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and host of other relatives and friends.
