He was predeceased by: his parents, H. D. Smith and Rilda Smith (Burke); his wife Joyce Smith (Daugherty); and his brothers, Howard Smith, Othel Smith (Lena), Earl Smith (Magdeline), Odie Smith (Dorothy) and Hurstle Smith (Rita).
He is survived by: his sisters, Elsie (Smith) and Tolliver (Jim); his brother-in-law Wendell Harrell; his daughter Debbie Jo Smith (Rocky Webb); his siblings-in-law, Glenna Harrell and Glen Daugherty (Judy); his close friends, Bob, Alfredia Duncan, Ron Smith and Phyllis Inman; and his caregivers, Tabi Smith, Phyllis Inman, Eva Walters, Karen Walters and Sabrina Chambers. He is also survived by Several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
