She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas M. Byrd and Hazel Dean White Byrd; and her husband Edgar Darden Newman. She is survived by: her siblings, Thomas M. Byrd, Jr., Robert Byrd and Margaret Dean Burgin; her children, Lawrence Stephen (Steve) and Gail Newman Cooke (John); and her grandchildren, Jason S. Cooke (Jane), Michael Stephen Newman (Sienna), Justin Thomas Cooke (Kelly) and Chelsea Cooke Mason (Jonathan). She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
