He was predeceased by: his parents, Dexter E. Coates and Agnes Coates (Clift); and his brother Donald Coates. He is survived by: his wife Lynn Coates of Hixson; his children, Stacy Coates, Clinton Coates and Collin Derek Coates; and his granddaughter Lula Rose Coates.
