He was predeceased by: his wife Lucy; his parents, James Bruce and Maggie Brewer Coulter; his wife Ina Lucille Coulter; his daughter Rhonda Jewell; and his siblings, Brewer, Johnson, Frank, Walter, Katherine Moore and JoAnn Coulter.

He is survived by: his daughter Melinda Cato (Fred); his grandchildren, Cherie Jewell (Sean Martin), Jim Jewell (Renee) and Tamara Riggleman (Dean); his great grandchildren, Dr. Sean Forrest (Camellia), Wade, Reid and Caroline Jewell; and his great great grandchild Juniper Forrest. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A reception was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home (5401 TN-153, Hixson, TN 37343). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 at the same location.
