He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon Sumners and Clara Mae Cole Sumners; his wife Rachel Sumners; and his brothers, Wilburn and James Cole Sumners.
He is survived by: his sons, Ralph Sumners, Barry Sumners (Carol), Billy Sumners (Donna) and Terry Sumners (Sharon); and his niece Ginger Day (Jason). He is also survived by ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
