He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy R. Patton and Birdie Thomas Patton; his brother Robert Howard Patton; and his sons, James T. Patton Jr. and Philip R. Patton.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Renfro Patton; his son David M. Patton; his daughters-in-law, Heather H. Patton and Susan D. Patton; and his grandchildren, Ben, Elisabeth, Julia, Katherine and Hannah. He is also survived by six great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
