He was predeceased by: his parents, Lillian Wheeler and Joe Wheeler; his wife Virginia Wheeler; and his siblings, Harlan, Tina, Jim, Jackie and David.

He is survived by: his children, Vicki Joe Harmon and Claudie C. Wheeler, Jr.; his grandchildren, Shawn (Michelle), Nicole, Mindee, Klawdy III (Iffy) and Erin; his great grandchildren, Sarah Savannah, Dylan, Riley, Jake, Trevor, Kaya and Rebel; and his siblings, Ann and Alfred. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
