He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph R Smith, Sr. and Iris Pate Smith; his brother Mike Smith; his brother-in-law Mike Carmack; and his close friend Dave Miller.
He is survived by: his wife Kathy Swain Smith; his daughters, Amanda Barker (Josh), Angie Byrd Dillon and Kara Evans; and his sister Nancy Smith Carmack.
