He was predeceased by: his parents, A. Hobie McGowan and Freda Martin; and his sister Connie Conley. He is survived by: his wife Kathryn C. McGowan; his children, Joshua J. McGowan (Tina) of Jonesborough, TN, Isaiah McGowan (Rebecca), Timothy E. McGowan (Katrina) of Denver, CO and Hannah E. Holt (Casey); his grandchildren, Tyleah, Jericho, Ian, Emmaline, Luca, Vero, Lennon, Brinley, Finley and Samuel; and his sister Nancy Potters of Hurricane, WV. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Meadow Creek Presbyterian Church at 4850 W. Allens Bridge Rd, Greeneville, TN 37743.
