She was predeceased by: her parents, Shelby Gorrell and Maude Ray Blick Gorrell; her husband James Edgar Mears; her siblings, Hunter Gorrell, Nola Stone and Eurene Tate; and her grandson Terry Lee Merritt, Jr..

She is survived by: her daughter Deborah; her son-in-law George Gunter of Crab Orchard, TN; her daughter Vicki Thomas of Greenbrier, TN; and her sister JoAnn Brooks of Nashville. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
