He was predeceased by: his parents, Novella Howard Slate and Jack Martin Slate; his siblings, Jimmy Slate and Peggy Browning; and his grandson Cody Adcock.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Slate; his children, Steve Slate (Sheila), Sherry Adcock, Karen Jackson and Cindy Stansberry (Ed); and his sister Patsy Nevels. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
