He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Barrett Hudson and Vida Belle Stout Hudson; and also Patsy Belle Hudson Albritton. He is survived by: his wife Gayle; his sons, Carl Lutts Hudson (Cheryl) of Lebanon and Phillip Barrett Hudson Jr. (Alissa Craft Hudson) of Cookeville; his grandchildren, Cecelia Craft Hudson, Phillip Barrett Hudson III and Darby Anne Hudson; and his brothers, Benjamin Carl Hudson and Samuel Elliott Hudson.
