He was predeceased by: his wife Margie Ann Shields; and his son James F. Shields, Jr. (Jeff). He is survived by: his daughters, Melanie Holt (Darwin) of Goodlettsville and Melissa Foster (Mark) of Gallatin; his grandchildren, Marcie Nitsch, Meagan Griffith, Jacob Brown, Abby Brown and Emma Brown; and his great grandchildren, Hudson Nitsch and Maddox Nitsch. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
