He was predeceased by: his parents, T. A. Sanders and Fannie Sanders; and his siblings, Elease Williams, Katherine McCoy, Lessie Long, Winnie Ellis, Thomas Alec Sanders Jr., Ira Sanders, Robert Sanders and Elmer Sanders.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Sanders of Gleason, TN.; his children, Beverly Damesworth (Tony) of Gleason, TN, Shelia Holmes (Udell) of Dyersburg, TN, Jimmy Sanders (Martha) of Greenfield, TN and Timothy Sanders (Denise) of Gleason, TN.; and his sister Mattie McCaslin of Lexington, TN.. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 18 great-great grandchildren.
