He was predeceased by: his father Dr. Hugo Smiltnieks (Mirdza); his brothers, Ojars and Ivars; his former wife Jane Kennon; his grandson Jaxson Steele; and his stepfather Leons Kalnins.
He is survived by: his wife Sandra Stroh-Smiltnieks; his children, Lisa Spiotta (Gene) of Germantown and Christopher Smiltnieks (Kristy) of Swifton, AR; his grandchildren, Isabella, Geno, Gabriella Spiotta, Eli and Sophie Smiltnieks; his sister Mara Ware (Jimmy Lee) of Grand Junction, TN; his niece Debbie Scheidhauer; and his nephew Jay Smiltnieks. He is also survived by other relatives, and many beloved friends.
