Nelma Watson Harrill Obituary

Nelma Alice Harrill went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on October 20, 2023. She lived at 105 Oak Forest Drive of Greer, SC. She was born July 21, 1933, the daughter of Ashley R. Watson and Alice King Watson of Gatlinburg, TN. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church of Greer, SC.

Surviving are her two sons, Charles David Harrill (Vanda) of Senoia, GA, and Mark Joseph Harrill (Kristie) of Greer, SC and daughter Cathy Jane Stewart of Greer, SC., nine grandchildren, Caleb Harrill (Rachel), Ashlee Harrill, David Andrew Harrill, Christian Stewart, Christa Yopp (Elisha), Kamren Harrill (Tessa), Karsen Harrill, Andrew White (Taylor), Allison Jobes (Corey), and three great grandchildren, Abigail Ross, Charlie Harrill and Reid Harrill, several nieces and nephews, Tommy Watson, Sherrie Caddell, Amy Pounders, Scott McGinnis, Lea Pike and Jim Watson. She is predeceased by her mother and father, her husband Charles Gaston Harrill, and two brothers Don Watson and Max Watson.

Nelma grew up in Gatlinburg, TN and was a graduate of Phi Beta Phi High School. She was a cheerleader and loved to play basketball. After high school she worked at a camera store in Gatlinburg. She had a love for pictures and capturing family moments. During this time, she met the love of her live Charles Harrill who was at the University of Tennessee. They fell in love and married on December 22, 1956. She adored "Charlie", and He adored Nelma. They had been married for 52 years.

She was a godly mother who loved her children and grandchildren. She was all about family. This was her greatest passion. Nelma loved nature, flowers, the outdoors and especially the Smokey Mountains. She loved hiking and hiked many trails around Gatlinburg. She especially loved the Smokies when the Rhododendron were blooming, the cardinals flying and when the leaves were changing colors. She also loved cleaning: everyday cleaning, spring cleaning and picking up specs on the floor.

Nelma loved to learn. You could often find her reading and studying. After her children were older, she received her associate degree in marketing from Greenville Tech. She especially loved reading and studying the Bible and took every opportunity to learn more about the Bible.

The most important thing in Nelma's life was Jesus Christ. She trusted Christ when David, her oldest son, was an infant knowing she needed God's strength to raise her family. She believed that Jesus Christ died on the cross for her sins and rose from the dead. This transformed her life. It helped her create a godly home, live a godly life, and guided her throughout lives ups and downs and into the presence of Jesus.
