He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Wardell "Bob" Ellis and Dorothy Loretta Campbell. He is survived by: his sons, Andy Ellis of Germantown, TN and Heath Ellis of Gates, TN; his sister Linda; and his close friend Donna Ellis. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren.

“A sad day and a end to a amazing legacy. My family have a vegetable stand in Wisconsin and have been buying from the Ellis family for over 40 years. Our customers LOVE the taste of a Ellis tomato and there are thousands that believe there isn't a better tasting tomato in the US! We are surely going to miss our relationship with Dwight, rest in peace and thank you thank you for being a wonderful farmer!”
